Lights Linking Architecture

How does architecture affect how we feel when we walk down a street, round a corner or into a passageway? Use of materials, texture and shape of a townscape is known to influence perceptions. My images explore how we feel when walking in several old towns, each steeped in layers of history and design influences. More specifically these images explore how the design of streetlamps provide visual continuity. They offer not only light but also shape and materials that can act as links from one scene to the next.

A striking visual effect was created by tonal manipulation of the images to create a sense of dissonance, whilst at the same time giving prominence to the aesthetic of shapes.
